Payment of premiums at ABSA and FNB

Obtain your cash reference numbers here.

Sanlam Life has an agreement with ABSA (Amalgamated Bank of South Africa) and FNB (First National Bank) to enable payment of policy premiums in cash via these banks.

Cash payments for policy premiums can be made at any of the country-wide branches of ABSA and FNB. We would like to assure all our clients that their bank portfolios will in no way be affected and will remain confidential.

The cash (reference) number

When policy payments are made in cash, each client must have one 15-digit number per policy, called the cash number. This cash number enables the unique identification of each policy, and therefore ensures the correct application of the premium payment to each policy.

Please note: 
The cash number must be accurate and must be printed on the ABSA or FNB deposit slip.

Payment points

You can make cash payments at any of the following:

  • at an ABSA or FNB teller,
  • at an ABSA or FNB ATM (Automatic Teller Machine),
  • through ABSA Direct or FNB Direct Line,
  • via the internet for both ABSA and FNB.

The process for each of these will be described.

Payments at an ABSA or FNB Teller

You can make cash and cheque payments at the bank tellers after correctly completing an ABSA or FNB deposit slip. It is not necessary for you to have an account at ABSA or FNB to make use of this specific facility. Enter the relevant cash (reference) number in the blocks next to "Dep Ref/Verw" for either ABSA or FNB, and complete the Sanlam bank account number in the blocks next to "Acc no/Rekno".

If you pay by cheque, write the Sanlam Life bank account number, the relevant cash (reference) number, as well as your name and telephone number, on the reverse side of the cheque. If you want to pay more than one policy premium with one cheque, you must complete a separate deposit slip for each policy.

After making the payment at a teller, you must retain the stamped deposit slip as proof of payment.

Please note:
Neither ABSA nor FNB will accept debit or credit card payments at the tellers.  You must NOT use the deposit boxes at the bank when making cash payments! 
 
Payments at an ABSA or FNB ATM

Initially, you must register your Sanlam Life policy as part of your personal banking portfolio. To register your Sanlam Life policy, you need to obtain one registration form per policy from either ABSA or FNB. Ensure that the following details are clearly printed and return the form to ABSA or FNB:

  • your name,
  • cash number (if you are a client of Sanlam Life, you will already have received one in the post), and
  • Sanlam Life account number at ABSA or FNB.

Please note:
After the initial, once-off, registration, you can transfer funds to a Sanlam Life policy premium account by using any ABSA or FNB ATM, depending on where your banking portfolio is.

Payments through ABSA Direct, FNB Direct Line or via the Internet

You can also make telephonic payments via ABSA Direct or First National Direct Line as well as via the Internet. To register payments through these channels, please phone:

  • ABSA Direct - 086 000 8600, or
  • FNB Direct Line - 0800 11 22 44

Please note:
State the relevant cash (reference) number when you make these payments.

Payments by debit order

We would like to encourage you to consider the use of a debit order as a mode of payment, instead of using cash. This is safer and more convenient, and will also discount your premium payments. This mode of payment is still the easiest and best option for you as well as Sanlam Life.

Other cash payments

You can also pay policy loans or single premiums at ABSA and FNB. However, for either of these payments, you need a separate cash number from the one printed on the original cash payment card sent to our clients. You can obtain these numbers by completing the relevant form.
 
Other product providers

All other Sanlam Life product providers, for example Sanlam Health Risk Management and Sanlam Unit Trusts, will have alternative cash payment channels and will communicate these separately to all their respective clients.

Please note:
In the case of PPS (Professional Provident Society), the following rules will apply:

  • Cash payments of PPS Retirement Annuities can be made at ABSA and FNB.
  • Cash payments of PPS shares, Group Life or Profmed must be made directly at any PPS office.
