Judging
Judging will be done by a panel of independent experts nominated by Sanlam annually.
Copies of the entries are submitted to each of the adjudicators for individual evaluation and they then convene to decide on the winners.
Awards will be made in each section, provided that entries of a sufficiently high standard are received. The adjudicators' decision will be final.
Criteria
The contents of submitted material will be judged on the following criteria, governed by a set of evaluation guidelines:
- insight and analytical ability;
- topicality/newsworthiness/importance/relevance;
- accuracy and reliability, in other words the way in which news sources and background facts have been applied to support conclusions or analyses;
- writing style/impact of the presentation;
- diversity; and
- clear distinction between fact and comment.
The adjudicators are mindful of the fact that:
- the various media have different and unique restrictions, needs and target audiences which require divergent techniques;
- as a result, each of the different media handles the news in its own way; and
- the time available for preparing reports may differ from medium to medium.
